State-Level Action Plan

California’s wildfire action plan involves both state-level strategies to improve forest health and community safety and individual-level preparation through the “Ready, Set, Go!” initiative. State goals include restoring forests with projects on 500,000 acres annually by 2025, increasing prescribed fire use, and investing in communities and science. On a personal level, individuals can create a Wildfire Action Plan, prepare a “Go Bag” with essential supplies, and make their homes more resistant to fire.

    Increase the pace and scale of forest and wildland management projects, with a goal of completing 500,000 acres annually by 2025. This includes expanding prescribed fire use and focusing on landscape-scale resilience projects.

    Invest in hardening homes and communities by retrofitting with fire-resistant materials and removing flammable vegetation.
  • Science and Technology:
    Improve predictive models and invest in science-based wildfire resilience strategies.
  • Economic Development:
    Create jobs and support sustainable forest economies through initiatives like the Climate Catalyst Fund and the California Conservation Corps.
  • Collaboration:
    Align efforts with federal, local, tribal, and private organizations to implement the plan. 

Personal-Level "Ready, Set, Go!" Plan

READY: Prepare your home and family for wildfire.

  • Create a Wildfire Action Plan: Include evacuation routes and emergency contacts for your home, family, and pets.
  • Assemble an Emergency Supply Kit ("Go Bag"): Pack essentials like water, non-perishable food, medications, a first-aid kit, and important documents for each family member.

SET: Get set to evacuate.

  • Know your utility controls: Make sure everyone in the household knows how to safely shut off gas, electric, and water mains.
  • Stay informed: Use a portable radio or scanner to get the latest fire updates.

GO: Evacuate immediately.​

  • Leave as soon as you receive an evacuation order. Follow the directions of law enforcement and fire officials.
  • Protect yourself and your family: Move to a designated safe zone and be prepared to shelter in place if necessary.
