You may have been paying each month for homeowners’ insurance but did you know?

From our office manager Amy Kramer:
“In the wake of the LA fires, it has come to my attention that some insurance claims are in dispute of being covered or have been denied because the Title is held in Trust, whereas the Insurance was under the individual homeowner’s name. Homeowners may need to add the Trust as an additional insured. Contact your insurance company to be sure!”

I contacted my insurance provider AAA, and my insurance was not in the name of my trust. I was advised to Submit the Certification of Trust document including the notarized acknowledgement to my carrier for underwriter approval. It took about three business days and now my insurance has added my trust as “additional insured”

Alie Lopez from Acrisure Insurance stated the following:

A carrier can potentially deny a claim if the home is titled in a trust or LLC but the insurance policy is under the individual homeowner’s name. This is because the ownership structure as indicated on the title must match the named insured on the policy to ensure proper coverage. To avoid a dispute it’s crucial to add the trust or LLC as an additional insured on the policy.

Increasing the costs of homes and construction….

Sweeping tariffs on steel, aluminum and copper imported to the U.S. as well as goods such as computer chips and semiconductors seem imminent in a push to increase U.S. production of the products. All these items are used in home products and are bound to push prices up for renovation, rebuilding and new construction projects both residential and commercial. An average single-family home typically uses between 4-6 tons of steel, with the majority used in framing, reinforced concrete (rebar), and sometimes in roofing and siding, depending on the size and complexity of the structure and location. An average single-family home uses around 439 pounds of copper, and hundreds of semiconductors across various electronic devices like TVs, computers, smartphones, smart appliances, and smaller gadgets like remote controls. Aluminum is used in siding and windows. The US imports about 18% of its gypsum from Mexico and about 20% of its finished drywall products from Canada. (USA Today)
